University of Peshawar
Coming down from the historic KHYBER PASS also known as the gateway to the indo-Pakistan Sub-continent lies the University of Peshawar, which was founded in 1951 as an out-growth of the famous Islamia College, lying on its western flank and itself instituted back in 1913. The University of Peshawar is the first seat of learning in this province of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), offers education up to Ph.D level in different subjects.

History
The site is further ennobled by the fact that within its heart lies the ruins of an ancient Buddhist Stupa and monastery dating approximately to second/third century AD, and further back, when it flourished as a seat of learning during the period of the King Kanishka, who was a great patron of Buddhism. Today, while these Buddhist ruins are buried under tons of their own debris, tall modern buildings of the University on top of them house institutions which probe into the future, opening new vistas of the universe through research and studies in knowledge.

Khyber College of Dentistry

In order to provide dental health facilities to the people of N.W.F.P it was considered necessary to set up a teaching dental department at Khyber Medical College, Peshawar.The idea to start a dental department came from late Dr. Hasan Raza Shah, the then Principal of de,Montmorency college of Dentistry, Lahore. It was gladly accepted, appreciated and very much encouraged by late Gen. Mohmmad Akram, the then principal of Khyber Medical College and Mr. Mohmmad Ali, the then Vice Chancellor of University of Peshawar. The Department of Dentistry was formaly declared open by the then Minister for Health Begum Mahmuda Salim on 12 October 1964.

The first batch graduated in 1968 while Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) accorded permananet recognition to B.D.S degree in its session held in Dacca (Bangladesh), the capital of then east Pakistan in Novmber 1968. From the modest start, it has grown to become fully developed teaching institute with its modren Oral & Dental Hospital and Surgeries, Opreation theaters and wards in its new building complex, which was opened on 9th September 1978.

Nearly 300 patients recive daily dental treatment of various nature. This include highly specialized treatment modalities like Fixed and removable Orthodontic appliances, Oro-Facial pain treatment, Facial injuries, Oral Cancer, Fixed and removable Prosthesis of various kind and Complex Endodontic and Restorative treatment. 11th January 1990, the Department of Dentistry was upgraded to the status of a Dental college by the then Chief Minister of NWFP.

The annual intake of students has gone gradually from 14 in 1964 to 50 students. So Far More than 600 dental graduates have qualified from this institute.

On 13th June 2001 Khyber College of Dentsitry in its meeting has unanimously decided to form an Alumni for its graduates working abroad and inland. Some of our proud graduates have taken the initiative to form and Alumni to look after KCD intrest, undergraduate students and patients. Old graduates are requested to be part of ALUMNI. It will be a pleasure for all of us to become members but in some cases your active participation in the academics functions and financial dontaions will be very important.We are trying to bring all of them together to one place.
